What is ECAS Ex Certification?
The Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme for Explosive Atmospheres (ECAS-Ex) is a mandatory certification program established by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to regulate electrical equipment intended for use in hazardous environments: areas where flammable gases, vapours, or dust may be present.
Governed by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT) under Resolution No. (23) of 2016, ECAS -Ex ensures that product meet strict safety and performance standards before entering the UAE market.
ECAS Ex certificate ensures that equipment meets UAE-specific requirements while aligning with international standards such as IECEx, unlike ATEX which governs equipment for explosive atmospheres in the European Union.

Certification process with DNV

- Application submission & request for quotation (RFQ) Submit your request to begin the process.
- Quotation issuance and project creation Receive a clear proposal outlining scope, timelines, and costs, and have a dedicated project set up to manage your certification journey.
- Document review Technical documentation is assessed for completeness and compliance.
- Clarifications & corrections Gaps or queries are addressed collaboratively.
- Approval & Issuance Once all requirements are met, your ECAS Ex Certificate of Conformity is issued.
Required documentation
To ensure smooth certification process, applicants must provide the following documents:
- Valid UAE Industry/Trade License
- IECEx Test Report (TR) and Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
- Quality Assessment Report (QAR) (not older than 12 months)
- Serial number of the certified unit
- Product drawings and photographs
- Electronic Declaration of Conformity on company letterhead
- Distributorship authorization (if applicable)
- ISO 9001 Certificate (QAR can be up to 18 months old if ISO certified)
Note: Unit Verification is available for equipment without a QAR. Refer to IECEx OD-033 for requirements.
