The DNV Validation Authority is independent from all global, national and enterprise CAs. It allows existing locally issued eIDs to be used on the international stage and offers to:

• process certificates issued by CAs that its customers ask it to work with, in principle any CA,
• assess the quality and trustworthiness of the issuing CA and its certificates,
• verify the signatures of various formats on the transaction or document,
• assess the quality of the signatures.

A unique feature of DNV VA services is the objective quality classification of CAs enabling relying parties to decide what level of trust to put in eIDs issued by a particular CA.

In the near term DNV plans to extend the service offering to provide end-entity auxiliary information derived from certificates, time stamping and notary services.
