NYK Shipmanagement to implement DNV seafarer competency management system

Europe: DNV has been selected by the European Commission to facilitate a process to shorten the time from policy making to industry implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage.

DNV’s results for 2008 show growth, but in the long term the financial downturn is also expected to affect DNV’s results.
Oslo: A three-year research project initiated by DNV has led to the development of an ice load monitoring system that provides bridge personnel with real-time information about the actual ice loads on the ship’s hull and shows satellite information about the ice integrated into electronic navigation maps.
Oslo: Shipping has entered an era characterised by cancellations, lay-ups and debt. As many as 8,000 vessels could be affected in the next few years. But even if the current situation is bleak, maintaining a long-term perspective will make everyone in the shipping industry better prepared once the present situation has stabilised.

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board has reinstated DNV’s accreditation for the validation and verification of CDM projects.

In the shipping industry, the effects of the global recession can also be seen by the number of vessels sent for recycling. The volume of tonnage sent for recycling in only the first month of 2009 was more than 40% of the total recycled in the whole of 2006.
