Liam Campbell has been appointed DNV’s station manager in Abu Dhabi.
Campbell joined DNV Dubai in 2003 as a ships in operation (SiO) surveyor, then worked as a project manager for Floating Production Storage and Offloading conversions and most recently newbuilding of siesmic vessels and megayachts.
He will be responsible for all production in Abu Dhabi, including DNV’s offshore class, advisory, plan approval, and SiO service offerings.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Mr Campbell. “Abu Dhabi is growing fast, and if you look at all the work and development that is going here, it is phenomenal.”
DNV has seen a massive shift in the expectations of its customers in recent years and no where is this more apparent than in the Middle East according to Mr Campbell.
“It is clear that owners or yards in general expect class societies to be more pro-active in helping them solve their problems and in DNV, it is clear this has been realized and this philosophy is already in place. I feel we are ahead of our competitors in this respect. This is what makes the station manager position in Abu Dhabi very interesting and challenging especially in the current financial climate,” he explains.
Mr Campbell sees the current financial climate in a positive sense. “I see it as an opportunity for DNV to get closer to our customers and develop partnerships for the future and this will be the key focus for DNV Abu Dhabi. We hope also to extend our customer service to not just supporting our clients when they face challenges but to actively try to anticipate their challenges before they arise. We are fortunate in DNV both locally and globally to have the support structure and systems in place to accomplish this and can hopefully add value to everything we do for our clients.”
Previously Campbell worked for DNV in Norway and Scotland. He has an
honours degree in naval architecture and offshore engineering from Strathclyde University. He is also a chartered engineer with the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA).
