Cooperation with the Spanish reference centre for renewable energy (CENER) covers type certification of wind turbines.

Under the cooperation agreement, DNV will together with CENER, provide type certification for the Spanish market. CENER will be able to conduct the test and measuring at its laboratories that DNV uses as part of the type approval of wind turbines. All type certificates will be issued by DNV.
Moving closer
CENER is the Spanish reference centre for renewable energy. It is located in Pamplona where new offices and laboratory facilities are being completed. Pamplona is the industrial centre in Spain for wind turbine industry.
The agreement with CENER allows for closer proximity to the Spanish turbine manufacturing industry. Says Christer Eriksson, Technical Manager, DNV Global Wind Energy, “Consequently testing and certification will not hamper but instead contribute efficiently to the development of reliable wind turbines.”
Spanish emphasis on wind energy
Spain is the second largest wind energy nation in Europe after Germany. The country has established a network of national, local, price and manufacturing incentives for wind energy. Since Spain also has few indigenous fossil fuel resources, wind energy has become an attractive option for electric utilities.
DNV has worked with wind turbine certification and type approvals for 17 years. DNV’s global wind energy centre is located at Risø in Denmark.
