In a move that will set a new standard for the assessment and certification of courses delivered by training institutions in the Asia Pacific region, DNV SeaSkill has signed a wide-ranging co-operation agreement with the Association of Maritime Education and Training Institutions in Asia Pacific (AMETIAP).

Chairman of the AMETIAP Board Prof. Hayamu Imazu, from Tokyo University of Marine Science & Technology, and DNV Seaskill representative Shankar A Narayan signed the agreement at a recent board meeting held in Singapore.
The goal of AMETIAP , which has over 85 members, consisting of maritime training institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region, is to foster cross-border co-operation and to improve the quality of maritime training and education.
In addition to the existing DNV SeaSkill Standard for the Certification of Learning Programmes, a working group has been tasked to deliver a new standard for the assessment of training delivery . This will include the establishment of a panel of expert trainers, duly certified by DNV to carry out assessments of training delivery at various AMETIAP member institutions.
The agreement gives DNV SeaSkill, a unit of Maritime Solutions, direct access to the AMETIAP members over a vast region and is a boost to the efforts to gain wide acceptance of the initiative in key markets.
